The Year of Learning

2009 was a mixture of everything for me. I can't clearly defined 2009 in one word unlike 2008, where CHANGE described almost every part it. There were moments when I am ultimately in joy, like when I spend time with my roommates talking, laughing, karaoke-ing or drooling over overly-gorgeous men. =P Or the time where I met up with my old buddies just to catch up over a lovely meal in a nice restaurant. Or the time when I reunite with friends I have never seen since I left high school. Or the time when I go for outings with my classmates or celebrate birthdays of college friends in the most creative and bizzare ways.

Then, there were moments when I shed tears, became quick-tempered and felt loneliness because friends left for a new places whether it is just 25 minutes drive away or 12 hours flight away. Or the moments where I look out of my hostel window, missing my old friends. Or the moments when I am saddened by my recent test marks and the problems I face with my books. Or the moments when I blamed everything but myself because I could not manage time properly. Or when I procrastinate things to run away from them, only to find them chasing after me and doubling up my burdens instead. Or when I said or done things I should not have...

But there were a few sweet memories that were life changing ones and I have to say that being part of MMS was one of them. Not only have I helped the juniors, once as confused as me to get adjusted to college, I have even made myself more well adjusted in college by meeting a lot of friends from various courses. I took on an important role, met people from various different backgrounds and have truly enjoyed myself throughout the process despite being overly-tired.

Moreover, one of my resolutions was to attend a live concert. Never did I know I would be so lucky to have attended THREE of them! The year kicked off with Mamma Mia at Istana Budaya with my mum, Wang Lee Hom's concert with Ker Yin in 2nd semester and All American Rejects with Nic in 3rd semester. The jakun bandar finally managed to experience what she longed for a long time-to watch a concert by the artists she loved so much.

Overall, I think 2009 was like an emotional roller coaster for me where happiness, sadness or loneliness were greatly exaggerated instead of evenly spread out. But I have learned a lot from it. And maybe I can use a word for 2009 after all. It's LEARNING. Not academically but by learning about dealing with life issues.

Happy New Year. =)

The Future is Near...

I have rather mixed feelings about the holidays coming to an end. I am glad that it is almost over so I can launch myself back into geek mode and get on with life. In fact, I almost disliked this holidays because I was basically at home rotting away, not knowing the day and date. But I would want a longer holiday because it is innate in almost everyone that relaxing is better than working. It is also because I haven't completed or accomplished anything useful this holidays (By useful I meant on the academic side of life since watching all episodes of House Season 1, 2 & 5, learning up Priscilla Ahn's songs on guitar or leveling up 10 levels in Restaurant City clearly does not fall under that category..=P)

I often tell myself to get myself out of the computer and do something more fruitful but I always NEVER leave in the end or I will end up on the couch flipping TV channels. Then at the end of the day, when I do my little reflections I realized that I wasted time. -.- I guess since the invention of my own overworked-overstressed space in my hostel life, I see home as a relaxation spot whether it is just over a weekend or over a time span of 1.5 months. Thus, I can hardly discipline myself at home although many may say that home is a much better place to study.

But I know I have to change that attitude of mine since the next semester is the FINAL semester in Intec. The semester of examinations that will be the stepping stone to medical school. I would even dare say that it is our lifeline to medical school. I have to admit that I was facing a bit of glitches during the third semester and I am not sure if things will fall into place like how I thought it would during the 1st or 2nd semester.

The truth is, I have been a little scared lately and am occasionally self-doubting because my confidence was shattered a few times during the 3rd semester. And the more truth is that I have been procrastinating a lot during the holidays because I was a bit scared and clueless on how to face the situation. I am scared...DAMN scared of CAL's twin-The Dark Lord of Edexcel.

They say 3rd semester was a "hell semester" and it was. But I think the fourth semester is the doctorlife-or-not-determining one.

Days.

With less than a month left for this year, let us take a look at the weirdest, bizzare and odd days celebrated. Nowadays, there seems to be a day for EVERYTHING.

1.BUBBLE BATH DAY (8th January)
Apparently it is a day to relax and indulge in bubble baths. You can even send E-cards in conjunction of Bubble Bath Day. Anyone interested?=P

2.MY WAY DAY (17th February)
I did it my... way......" as quoted from the famous Frank Sinatra song. It is a day where everyone choose to do what they want and what they truly believe in without the influence of another party. Can you imagine if this day was a public holiday? All hell breaks loose! =P In my opinion, tolerance, give and take existed for a reason.

3.MAKE UP YOUR OWN HOLIDAY DAY (26th March)
When they've run out of ideas to name everyday a special day, here's the modifiable default version of it. A day where you can name it as any day that has not receive a proper recognition yet.

4.NOISE AWARENESS DAY (29th April)
I first saw this in my friend's diary and I decided to dig deeper about it. It basically speaks for itself...a day where everyone keeps quiet. (Well not literally, of course!) It is more of a day to promote awareness to the public about the long term effects of uncomfortable and loud noises to the ear. It is set to educate the public about avoiding the exposure of loud music (something I should take note=P) from clubs, concerts or any form of loud noises. I guess it helps in alarming us about the increasing sound pollution.

5.STAR WARS DAY (4th May)
Hahaha. This is definitely my day. You might think that this is a day to celebrate the birth of an AMAZING sci-fi movie so it is just like every other recognition days. But this day is more of a joke as it was set specially because "May the 4th be with you" sounds like "May the force be with you", a famous line uttered by the Jedis in the movie.

Ready to smack your hands to your head yet? Wait there's more...

6.INTERNATIONAL FAIRY DAY (24th June)
It is really about the fairies from the fantasy and imaginative world. No offense to fantasy lovers, but although they are described as mythical and legendary creatures, do they really exist? Lol

7.EMBRACE YOUR GEEKNESS DAY (13th July)
Calling out to all the geeks out there! This is our day whether you spent hours tweaking on a software you developed, reading superhero comics, cracking Chemistry jokes or any other form of geekiness nature you have.

8.RACE YOUR MOUSE AROUND THE ICONS DAY (28th August)
I can't believe that I was born on the same day as this day..-.- and I doubt that I will ever celebrate this day. The mouse here means your computer mouse...where you can kill time by literally racing your mouse around the icons on your desktop. Gosh! I'd rather google "I am bored" instead of doing that!

9.PUNCTUATION DAY (24th September)
:;"?!,.-...A day to promote the correct usage of punctuation. It is quite useful actually to remind ourselves about when to use the correct punctuation. But I still find it really pointless. =P

10.INTERNATIONAL MOMENT OF FRUSTRATION SCREAM DAY (12th October)
Omg! Get ready with your earplugs as anyone interested will go out and scream for thirty seconds at 12:00 GMT. I bet you the initiators of Noise Awareness Day has something to say about this.

11.USE YOUR COMMON SENSE DAY (4th November)
Like PCK always says it "Use your brain...Use your brain...". A day to remind everyone to make use of the one ability that we all have to good use.

12.MAKE UP YOUR MIND DAY (31st December)
Oh oh...we still have time for this day. It is apparently an important day to those indecisive ones out there where a decision must be made. It is time to take a stand and make your choice on whatever doubts. I think 31st December is the right date for this day because it makes it seemed like a transition....it makes us think "Today is a day I DECIDE to change/improve". LOL

That officially concludes how bored I have been. But hey, at least I was not racing my mouse between icons!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! XD

If you love Zee Avi...

..then you will love this singer...

You might have heard about her before. She is a multi-instrumentalist with a lovely voice. She may not have those powerful stuff like ballad singers, but her voice feels so original and untainted from the "I only care about making money instead of music" image most singers have nowadays.

I found her music via Yahoo! Music not Malaysian radio (God knows what is being played on those stations nowadays) and I did some research about her and before I know it, I am crazy about her songs! The few songs that I am infatuated about are Dream, Rain, I Don't Think So...and the list goes on! XD "Dream" was actually featured in "Bride Wars" and will be featured in "Love Happens", a movie starring Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Anniston that I can't wait to watch. Hehe...

Dream by Priscilla Ahn

I was a little girl alone in my little world
Who dreamed of a little home for me
I played pretend between the trees,
and fed my houseguests bark and leaves,
and laughed in my pretty bed of green.

I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest swing.
I had a dream.

Long walks in the dark
through woods grown behind the park,
I asked God who I'm supposed to be.
The stars smiled down on me,
God answered in silent reverie
I said a prayer and fell asleep.

I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest tree.
I had a dream.

Now I'm old and feeling grey
I don't know what's left to say
about this life I'm willing to leave.
I lived it full and I lived it well,
there's many tales I've lived to tell

I'm ready now,
I'm ready now,
I'm ready now
to fly from the highest wing.

I had a dream

A Soopreeszingly Interesting Movie

Grr..I dislike third party XML layouts while my plans to master simple programming and create my own blogskin is still a faraway thing. Thus, it is time to revert and depend on Blogger ones instead.

I had a dream about being surprised by Sri Aman friends at the airport. We later embarked on a similar adventure I had with my Intec friends. Sigh...I really miss my friends, whether they are 1.5 hours drive away or more than 7 hours of flight away. I did not really felt it before this because my mind was in overclocking mode before the holidays. Now when my day starts with no alarm or study plans to wake up to, my mind slowly wanders to imagine what are they currently doing, eating or just what's up with their lifes.

Snap! Back to reality, I watch yet another DVD that was soopreezingly good. I think by observing how I spelled out "surprise", some of you might have already know what movie is it. It is a movie about an inventor, a researcher and a biter. On top of that, add pasta putanesca, a scarily creepy Count, a warm-hearted reptile scientist, a hyper-paranoid aunt, a fake but real wedding, fire-causing converging lenses and you get a whole package of a fun-filled family movie.

It was the same as Stardust where I never intended to even consider watching this movie. I thought it will be childish or I might have grown out of it or I thought it will be something queer that requires one to read the book before knowing the real picture. But again, we must never judge a book by its cover because I was really entertained by this movie.

"Soo-preez!"

Am facing problem with blues improvisation. My experimented tunes sounds like an alien theme song rather than real blues. T.T
